JANUARY WRAPPED-UP

Hey friends, welcome to our very late January 2022 Wrap-Up post. Last month was a snow storm of client edits, adjusting to the new fasting diet my GI gave me, and managing the blog. I struggled to concentrate for most of the month and didn’t get as much done in January that I wanted. Still, it was a good month. Anytime there’s progress, even just a step or two, is a good month for me. Here’s what I did 🙂

WHAT I READ

January was a rough month for reading. I kept losing interest in most of the stories I picked up. Even ones I knew, had it been any other time, I would have liked them. I had too much going on, mentally, to enjoy anything beyond romance.

WHAT I LISTENED TO

Per my GI, I’ve been hitting the elliptical 3-5x a week for about 30 minutes. This means plenty of time jamming to tunes to keep me motivated and to keep my mind off how much I hate to exercise 😀 I always listen to music when I’m feeling the need to disappear from the world. Or to stop thinking. So…here are my top 5 songs on replay…

1. Starboy by The Weeknd

2. Drivers License by Olivia Rodrigo

3. Side by Side by Bewhy

4. I know the End by Phoebe Bridgers

5. Lovely by Billie Eilish

WHAT I WATCHED

Watch Web of Lies Season 6 | Prime VideoWe recently subscribed to Discovery Plus, which is overflowing with TV junk food. It’s been great to decompress at the end of the day, snuggling on the couch with my two cats and husband. Lately, I’ve been watching Web of Lies, a disturbing crime docuseries on how the internet has been used to commit horrid crimes. Probably not the best material for those sensitive to paranoia and fear, but I do feel, on some level, like it reminds me why it’s important to be careful about who I let into my life from the internet.

THE BLOG

As for Bookish Valhalla, everything is going better than I expected. We made a few changes, such as adding an audible option to many of our posts and tweaking our navigation to me more user friendly.

It’s been a struggle to post regularly (mostly due to other obligations), but I’m over the moon about how many bloggers have been engaging with us recently.

Our reading challenge for the year—Adult SFF Backlist Books—has garnered so many participants and supporters. I never expected it to bring this much joy and excitement!

We’re doing our best to host more discussion posts in an effort to include the reading community more and more. We hope to keep up the momentum throughout the year 🙂
