The 20 Questions Book Tag

1.How many books are too many books in a book series?

To be honest, it depends on the series. There are trilogies I’ve read where everything after book one doesn’t do it for me and other series where three books is my max. It all comes down to how attached to the stories & characters I am.

2. How do you feel about cliffhangers?

If done well, love them, BUT it’s so rare that I come across a cliffhanger that didn’t scream “buy the next book to find out.” I personally believe a cliffhanger should match the story and it should serve a purpose. Cliffhangers that just want me to buy the next book leave me like:

3. Hardback or paperback?

In a perfect world, I’d say all three. I’d choose them all because books are books, but this is not a perfect world and everything I interact with should be rugged at best to survive my clumsiness. So….I have to go with hardbacks.

4. Favorite book?

Is it possible to have a just one favorite book? Hmm. The last great book I read was A Court of Mist & Fury by Sarah J Maas. Is it my favorite? I don’t know, but I did love the way it made me turn twelve shades of tomato.

5. Least favorite book?

Right now, it’s Stormdancer by Jay Kristoff. I. JUST. CAN’T. GET. OVER. IT. And not because it was good.

6. Love triangles, yes or no?

Eh, no. Unless it’s polyamorous or consent is there, it won’t work for me. Plus, it has to be done well. As anti-Clare as I have been feeling lately, I can’t deny she got the the love triangle right in the Infernal Devices between Jem, Will, and Tessa. It was a true triangle in the sense that everyone involved had a relationship with each other. And it wasn’t that jealous macho love you see in a ton of YA (I carry a bright torch for those sensitive guys with tormented souls).

7. The most recent book you just couldn’t finish?

Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas. As you can tell, I’m on a Maas spree. I’m so behind reading her books, it should be a crime. My reason for DHF-ing this particular book isn’t because it’s necessarily bad. I just couldn’t get over how the first ten chapters went on and on about badass reputations and killer instincts, but all I got was three characters trotting along the countryside and a main dish of exposition. There was potential for me to keep going. I really wanted to get into it, but sadly, my attention span that day just couldn’t cope.

Actually, that’s a lie. I’ve read a TON of Jane Austen, Edgar Allen Poe, Tolkien, etc

BUT, these were the FIRST oldest books I’d ever read.

12. Favorite author?

There was a time when it was Jk, Rowling. Then it was Applegate. Then Clare. It changes these days, depending on what they’re writing and whether I connect with it. Right now, Julie Kagawa & Holly Black are battling for my heart.

13. Buying books or borrowing books?

Both. I’m sooooo greedy, I know. I borrow what I can’t purchase right away. Or I binge buy as much as I can.

14. A book you dislike that everyone else seems to love?

Gemina series. I have been recommended this series enough times that I had to try it out – and disliked it less than two pages in. Premise is interesting, but the format & writing style isn’t for me.

15. Bookmarks or dog-ears?

Once upon a time I would have considered it a capital offense to bend the corners of pages in a book or to scribble notes. Then, one year, a professor convinced me that a worn book is nothing to be ashamed of; it has been loved to the fullest extent. So now, I make dog ears. And nope, I don’t feel guilty 🙂

16. A book you can always reread?

Pretty much every single book I adore. I recently reread Alienated by Melissa Landers, among a couple others. I’ll come back when I’m hungry for them.

17. Can you read while hearing music?

No. Not unless the music is little more than a background hum.

18. One POV or multiple POVs?

Depends on the book and whether it’s done well. Personally, I can’t follow more than two or three at most. And for goodness sake, make sure the POV is relevant to the story.
19. Do you read a book in one sitting or over multiple days?

Depends on how much I want to procrastinate and whether I’m willing to sacrifice sleep. A truly delicious book will be devoured in a single day. An emotional one might take 1-2 days. I need to be in the reading zone to read an entire book in one go, which sadly won’t happen if I can’t procrastinate on other things. Like right now, I’d LOVE to read the three books I bought on my birthday, BUT there’s so much Spanish homework to complete AND the 40 hour work week to compete with.
