Hey there, Valkyries! Welcome back to Bookish Valhalla for another Top Ten Tuesday post. This week’s topic is all about the book settings I’d love to visit. To be honest, though, I read a ton of dark fiction and space horror, so I’m not sure if I’d *really* want to take a vacation to one of those worlds. So, let’s pretend a brief visitation won’t kill me, shall we?
Top Ten Tuesday was originally created in June 2010 by The Broke and the Bookish. In January 2018, it was transferred to That Artsy Reader Girl. At its heart, TTT was born out of a desire to bring readers together and a shared love of lists. Please check out her blog for more TTT topics!
Here are the Top Six book settings I'd love to dive into:
Unfinished Tales by J.R.R. Tolkien – Númenor, located in Belegaer, between Middle Earth and Aman. Like all lost things devoured by time, Númenor is one of those ancient places I’d love to explore because of its rich history.
Leviathan Wakes by James S.A. Corey – Mars, Milky Way Galaxy. Plenty of sordid and horrific affairs take place in this world. Still, I’ve always wondered what living and traveling through space would be like. And I’d love to make a pit-stop on Mars just to say I’ve been there.
Wolf-Marked by Veronica Douglas – Magic Side, Chicago. Though I’d need to have a special registration ID card to get in (and that’s if the magic doesn’t drive my muggle butt away), this is the one place outside of Area 52 that I’d kill to sneak into. It’s full of every supernatural creature you can think of, a kick ass magical artifacts library, and lots of odd quirky shops to explore. If I get busted sneaking in, you’d bail me out, right? RIGHT?
Stories of Your Life by Ted Chiang – Looking Glass Site. Bizarre, I know. But wouldn’t you want to communicate first hand with an alien species? Wouldn’t you want to witness that? Even if I got no answers at all as to why the aliens are here, first contact would be an awesome experience to have.
Dark Fever by Karen Marie Moning – Dublin, Ireland. Bruh, think about it: lush Irish folklore, cobbled streets, lively taverns, and lots of hot, horny faeries. I’m going for totally innocent reasons, of course.
Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson – Great Library of Summershall. Yes, the books are dangerous and could end the world. BUT WOULDN’T YOU STILL WANT TO READ THEM? There’s something about a library filled with living/possessed books and librarian warriors with swords to guard us against them that is a HELL YES for visitations.
Thanks for visiting Bookish Valhalla for this week’s Top Ten Tuesday. You can find our previous TTT post HERE. What bookish world or setting would you love to visit? Let me know in the comments ♥
The Great Library of Summershall?! When do we leave?

Dublin would be such a cool place to visit! Yeah, I think it’s totally reasonable to assume that you wouldn’t be harmed during this visit. I read darker stories, too, and also had that thought about the safety of visiting them while working on my post.
