Aliens Abroad is the sixteenth novel in Gini Koch’s Science Fiction series, but don’t let that stop you from picking up this steamy action packed thrill ride. If you have not read the first fifteen books, never fear! Aliens Abroad is confident enough to fill the gaps while simultaneously propelling you straight into the galactic core of the story – and into the chaotic, but exciting adventures of Kitty Katt-Martini.
What I loved: What didn’t I love? The star protagonist, Kitty Katt, is unlike any other science fiction female character I’ve ever read: She’s the First Lady to the President, making her the first ever married protagonist I’ve read in a series like this. I love that her marriage doesn’t take over who she is independently and their relationship doesn’t fall into a stereotypical hole. Too often I read stories where the marriage is a burden, where the two people can’t seem to do anything without the other, and the relationship is perceived as this bland, abandoned asteroid floating in social oblivion. Kitty and Jeff’s relationship is anything, but boring. Hell, I’d go as far as calling them a power couple I wouldn’t want to conspire against.
I especially enjoyed this parallel world of Earth and intergalactic relations. Koch does her research when it comes to constellations, galaxies, and governmental structures, which sucked me right into a world that felt like our reality, but wasn’t.
From the very first page, I was thrust into the thick of action – or as I like to call it, the hornets nest. Kitty and I were thrown into a wild train ride of action as she launched into an adventure to find several solutions to the looming problem. I loved her personality: her passion and determination to resolve conflict made me admire it. In her own way, she’s a sort of galactic superhero with a hubby sidekick and she was kickass all the way.
What I wasn’t crazy about: Absolutely nothing. I know! It’s rare to find a book where I can’t form a single complaint or an element I felt could have been better, but Aliens Abroad impressed me enough that I have nothing negative to say.
I’m speechless. It’s Amazing.
Conclusion:
I have just four words for you: GO READ THIS BOOK. I’m serious, people. Aliens Abroad brought fresh elements to the science-fiction novel and it drew me in like the gravitational pull of a black hole. It’s the kind of story that left me anxiously chewing the inside of my cheek as my heart raced and I couldn’t (much to my own disdain) read fast enough. From the first page, I was tangled in the story and invested in all the characters. Nothing is more important than that for me, and it’s why I recommend you launch yourself into this book.
